Environmental photography submissions will be featured in an exhibition hosted at the Bahrain Fort Museum from 1-6 November, 2009.
The Treasure Hunt Environmental campaign is organized by leading Public Relations and Event Management consultancy, EVENTSCOM, in cooperation with the Commission, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) certified Environmental Citizenship Program of Bahrain Women Association for Human Development, under the theme “CHANGING BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS THE ENVIRONMENT”.
The Photography Competition aims to raise environmental awareness through visual images and through defining some of the Kingdom’s most pristine and well-preserved natural sites that have maintained their charm since ancient times. It will also serve as a reinforcement of individual behaviours towards the environment.
The competition will comprise two main categories: the first category is Beautiful "Bahrain" which will reveal Bahrain’s most natural beauty; while the second category “Environmental Blunders", will expose negative and unsustainable environmental behavior and practices that affect our natural habitat and general well-being, and contribute to pollution and waste.
The photography competition is only open to Bahraini nationals and legal residents of Bahrain, whether professional or amateur photographers. All images provided must be taken within the Kingdom of Bahrain, and entrants can submit up to five pictures across both categories combined. Photo submissions must be at least 300 pixels and should be accompanied with the participant’s full name, the date each photo was taken, and the location of each photo. Entries will be accepted until 15 October 2009, and can be sent by email to photos@ethbahrain.com or delivered by hand to the EVENTSCOM office, third floor of Yateem Centre in Manama.
EVENTSCOM Founder and CEO, Mrs. Zahraa Taher, commented saying, “Since its inception, the ‘Environmental Treasure Hunt Campaign’ has blossomed and evolved year after year, gathering fresh ideas and innovations in harmony with cultural and environmental developments.
“This year we have added a number of activities to the campaign, including the photography competition, due to the power of a photo in conveying our message and objective. The ‘Beautiful Bahrain’ category aims to remind us of the natural beauty of our beloved Kingdom Bahrain, which has been blessed with the most beautiful sites, and remains the home of pearls and beaches.
“Whereas, the ‘Environmental Blunders’ category aims to address and correct the environmental mistakes we make which destroy our environment—intentionally or unintentionally—so that these behaviours don’t accumulate and become problematic and difficult to undo.
“In this light, we encourage all Bahrain citizens and residents, and environmental enthusiasts to participate in this national contest,” Mrs. Taher concluded.
The first Treasure Hunt in 2003 promoted road safety and driving ethics, and then eventually evolved to focus on the importance issue of environmental preservation. The event has garnered considerable public attention and interest from the Kingdom of Bahrain’s citizens and residents alike, and always features a variety of dynamic activities from workshops to competitions; summer camps to fashion shows; and more—all in addition to the final Treasure Hunt event which takes place on the 6 November 2009.

“This workshop is directly in line with the Treasure Hunt theme for this year: Changing Behaviour Towards the Environment,” noted Mrs. Zahraa Taher, Founder and CEO of Eventscom.
“The purpose of the workshop is to create a new mentality among Bahraini society—with an emphasis on the corporate sector—by prompting participants to be more mindful and aware of their consumption behaviour. Participants will be asking themselves questions such as ‘What do I consume?’ and ‘What are the consequences of my consumption?’ Sustainable consumption is not only about consuming less, but rather, more efficiently—it is smart consumption to sustain an elevated quality of life” The Workshop aims Towards New Sustainable Mentality and highlighting the role of individuals and the corporate in a collaboration that fills the gaps between the theory and the practice in work places and in day-to-day issues and to add positive impacts on the mother earth. “For corporations this means structuring a business to adopt sustainable consumption patterns in addition to changing the mentality of its employees—this reflects both economic efficiency and social responsibility. Our workshop host venue—the BIBF—provides an excellent example of a socially conscious professional institution which takes measures to reduce energy consumption, and encourages both its employees and students to apply more sustainable consumption behaviours to their daily lives.
“Ultimately, we are trying to promote sustainable consumption and production so that both consumers and producers integrate the principles of sustainability in their personal and professional decisions,” Mrs. Taher concluded.

“In the past we have highlighted various environmental issues such as pollution, desertification and recycling. Career Expo is a non-profit annual event that is being organized for the 8th time after a brief hiatus in 2006-7, under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Majeed Al Alawi, Minister of Labour, and under the auspices of The National Society for Support of Education & Training (NSSET)
The three-day event targets Bahraini secondary students, vocational students, jobseekers, parents and the community at large, in an effort to enhance Bahraini students and jobseekers understanding of the professional world, and to guide them in choosing, or changing, their careers; thereby enriching job prospects and the quality of the Bahraini workforce.
Hundreds of applications were received at the 2005 Expo Job Fair, subsequently facilitating the nomination of almost 600 Career Expo attendees to go through the formal interview process for those jobs.
In addition to facilitating the job search process, the Expo: promotes careers in various fields; provides information about several occupations, and the educational and vocational requirements necessary to pursue them; provides training and career development; offers employability skills; and highlights employer expectations.
The previous expo attracted different organizations and it is anticipated that more than 120 organizations will participate and approx. 20,000 visitors will visit Career Expo 2008, including corporate companies, universities, colleges, and other educational institutions; representing a variety of sectors such as: Science and Engineering; Banking and Finance; Catering and Hospitality; and Petroleum and Gas. International Exhibitors also took part in the Expo, coming from Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. More than 15,000 visited the last expo.
Several activities held in previous Expos will also take place in 2008 which will be announced shortly.
